Through many years of co-creation with Tŝilhqot’in Knowledge Keepers, Leaders, Matriarchs and Community Members, the Tŝilhqot’in National Government (TNG) is launching cultural awareness training, entitled “Nenqayni Ch’ih Deni Wedli” (Let’s Live Indigenous), an exploration of Canadian history through a Tsilhqot’in lens. The first public offering of this informative evening will be provided on May 7th in Williams Lake for organizations and individuals that work with Tŝilhqot’in communities and/or members.
Funding through this program was provided by the Union of British Columbia Indian Chiefs (UBCIC) in the wake of the devastating 2017 wildfires and tensions experienced between agencies operating in Tŝilhqot’in communities. The training was developed and will be facilitated with Deyen Consulting Founder, Chastity Davis-Alphonse. In the summer, TNG plans to conduct 2-day training sessions with the inclusion of an on-the-land component. An online training component will also be available later in 2024.
