Due to the continued threat of wildfires in Tŝilhqot’in territory as a result of hot weather and dry conditions, the Tŝilhqot’in Nation is setting up Emergency Support Services (ESS) Group Lodging for Tŝilhqot’in members. The ESS Group Lodging will be located in Riske Creek adjacent to Tl’esqox (Toosey), one of the six Tŝilhqot’in communities. The ESS Group Lodging will also be made available to other First Nations in British Columbia if needed.

The ESS Group Lodging is in cooperation with the Ministry of Emergency Management and Climate Readiness (EMCR) and will offer temporary support and relief services during an emergency or disaster. The ESS Group will be a culturally safe environment for Tŝilhqot’in members and other Indigenous peoples. The ESS Group Lodging will be rustic in nature; the lodging offered will be ranger tents and family sized tents. Evacuees are welcome to bring their RVs to dry camp. There will be more details shared about the facilitates and supports at the ESS Group Lodging in the near future, once the space is fully operational.
